Who was the person with 'I'm an Adbrit' on the back of their banner - wanted to say hello, but it was a bit manic!

Someone should have told the BISTO people that there is a shop no more than 150 metres from where they were sitting that sells it.

Typical Aussie snag in bread BBQ, no more disappointing than any other freebie.

Didn't see any orange people, or any being pushed, rude or trampled on. BUT, the same thing happened in Sydney when GMTV filmed there yesterday. That Coleman guy was almost trampled.

Thought Cornesy looked much older in the flesh, as did Jane Lomax-Smith.

Saw Rob and Carols banner, thought their faces looked familiar.

Home by six!

Cripes. You guys always have such high expectations of things. Talk about setting yourselves up for disappointment.

I hate 'functions' like that. We ended up spending most of our time in Glenelg in the CD/DVD shop just up from the tram stop. Great shop that.

Nikki (misnix) said she would put hers on the back of her banner.... So glad I didn't go, it sounds like my worst nightmare. Told my mum to watch just to see the beach.

Just to add my thoughts. The coverage from GMTV was rubbish. The presenter, again rubbish. All in all, utter rubbish.

If they are there again next year, I don't think we will be going. Very dissapointed

Hi

I watched from the UK and thought it was a mess too, badly organised and presenter rubbish.

Should have been more organised, some people waffled on just to extend their 5 secs of fame.

Yes that was me, didn't see any others! Decided that if we were going to do the poms abroad thing, may as well go though whole hog!

Spoke to a few people, no idea who they were - there was one nice lady who had come straight from the airport :o

Saw - Wizzy and Rick in the distance, Foster Clan, Heathertoes, Ruby Tuesday, Shazrazmataz and Annette (came at 6.55 and cushily got in the last shot - exactly what we should have done!) There were a few other people that I didn't really know pointed out to me too.

Oh well we live and learn hey - to be fair it was exactly as I expected and feared it would be!

My highlight was meeting Jane Lomax-Smith, sad I know, but I am studying tourism!

Hi, I have to second the views here, was a bit of a let down. My daughter made our banner and she stood holding it for about 10 minutes then left it to me and my wife to do it. When they re-organised the crowd to form a line, we had to move so thought we'd better go. Took the chairs back to the car and went for a coffee.

Still found this if anyones interested

You may need to scroll down a little to select the correct clip and enjoy an ad for bingo first.

I went down for the last hour. Didn't know anyone so couldn't say if I saw you! :?

Although, the behaviour of a large bloke wearing a black polo shirt pushing over the yellow mascot deserved to get that punch in the face by the organiser ... he ran off laughing ... shame on you whoever you are ... :o It makes you ashamed of being English.

We didn't go but from reading what everyone has put i'm glad we stayed at home. It's a shame though when something like this happens as i'm sure loads of people miss their family and friends and were hoping just get a quick 5 mins to say merry xmas.

Ok...It was us... SANTA PLZ SEND BISTO ! (I just joined this board)

We enjoyed it overall ... shame about the weather but thanks to everyone who offered Bisto or where we could buy it.

The wind was a bit strong and we really ache and it bent the curtain poles ..... I must admit apart from a few wallies I thought the general spirit was good as I did read on expats that last year it was like a brit infested spanish hedonistic resort full of idiots so I was glad there weren't so many.

Yes I agree totally that the actual organisation was a bit rubbish.. specially for the little one's... a small area where they could have been separate at the front would have been better with them all sat down, occupied entertained and filmed...

did anyone get the feeling the organisers and band were very clique ??

never mind ..I'm sure Tracey may post her views but we did enjoy the overall experience..... nice to feel part of a larger group...of nice people.
Thanks to you all.

Interesting thread to read - I wasn't there, off doing happier things with my works party I'm glad to say!

But if the aim is to get families here to increase the number of children, and hence workers in a few years time, then it seems crazy not to have organised it in such a way that families and family life got the best possible promotion.

Ah well, I guess all those injured feelings and toes among the littlies still have Christmas to look forward to

Unfortunately i didn't get back from the works xmas do to get to glenelg in time but the family went and i've spoken to others who were there and to family back home that watched.from what i now understand ...the weather was bad and the show unorganised BUT the biggest dissapointment of the day was the behaviour of the " Brits abroad ". :nonnon
Shame on them !!!

Didn't think it was so bad, maybe the atmosphere - or lack of it, was in part due to the weather. The camerman was on the balcony for a while, but didn't seem to pan round much.

I think immigration SA had put a good effort into trying to organise it and it was probably down to the GMTV crew that there was such a lack of organisation about trying to get as many people as poss on TV. I like the suggestion of having a cordened off area for the kids to be entertained/filmed, that would have been good, and let the ones who wanted to fight over front line position elsewhere.

I think it was OK, having seen the Sydney clip, much as expected, I think it could have been better regards organisation of getting as many people on TV as possible, but everyone is so excited to try and get spotted, they just push to the front, I just decided to stay back and if we got lucky and got caught in the odd shot they took around the crowd,so be it.

The weather was the big let down, I tell everyone it never rains here! I didn't think it was total rubbish, but probably wouldn't go again, who knows. Nice to spot a lot of Adbrits there! As Donna says, makes you feel like you belong a bit when there are so many faces you can recognise and say hello to.

We arrived here 25 years ago, loved it and got on with it, we didn't need the "look here we are in the sun an doing better than you are" we just let everyone back home know that we were doing o.k here and happy without trying to prove that. Maybe the weather and how things were orgainised yesterday proved that maybe that's the way to go!!

I've been waiting for GMTV to go to Adelaide all week and was late for work watching it !!!!

It didn't look as bad as you have described - It looked as if you were all having a really good time !!!! ? and it looked a lot of fun !! ? :thumright:

I've been to Adelaide before and can't wait to get over there permanently -but from what they filmed you guys really could have been anywhere - Would have been nice to see a little bit more of the place - or even a clip of the sea !

At least yoiu were all wearing t-shirts - it's been really cold here the last few nights !

we went and I must agree with a lot of your comments about how badly run it was. Just looked at the footage taken on Adelaidenow and I must ask.........where are all us southerners ?????.

Everyone interviewed seemed to be from "up north" !!!!!!!!!!!!

Just want to take this opportunity to wish everyone and thier families a Great Christmas and a happy, healthy 2008.

Good luck to you all

we were there spoke to a family from Birmingham, they were great, got all most pushed over when the cameras came on us, don`t know if anyone recognised us in the UK, what a shambles, can`t understand why they didn`t cordon off the area.Is this the best Adelaide can do, Jane Lomax Smith get your act together, its not about you, its supposed to be EXPATS sending messages to ENGLAND
